TOWN HALL MEETING – JUNE 12 2015
- Ghana Flood and Fire Relief Fund project
- After deliberations by attendees, the consensus was to leverage our churches to embark on a fundraising event the 4 Sundays (June 21st, June 28th, July 5th and July 12) leading to the July 12th to climax the fund raising with a benefit concert. The contributions/donations by churches and individuals, businesses will be announced July 12th at the benefit concert
- Regarding the resources will be disbursement,after detail discussion and listening to various points of view the consensus was, we should rather opt for sending a delegation of two or three to ensure the money gets to the right people…hospitals, displaced families, education etc
- There was a suggestion to reach out to all churches and ensuring that we have the list of all churches in GTA. Working on that
- It was brought to our attention that PeaceFM has set up a relief fund already and folks in diaspora and in Ghana are all contributing to this fund and controls are in place to ensure the needs of the victims are met
- There was discussion about the Bank A/C and how to ensure that folks who need to contribute to this account have that information and this issue was deferred to the committee
- The benefits concert plan should be hurriedly planned out with flyers going out soon
- The team agreed that the committee should o drill down on these items and finalize and get things rolling
- Youth Summit
- To ensure maximum participation for this year’s youth summit it was recommended to reach out to all churches youth leaders for the summit
- To attract the youth, it was recommended to have an entertainment element to the agenda
- The planning for the summit will start soon to ensure that information goes out to all
- Tutoring at Apostles Continuation Church…GCAO offices
- It was announced that tutoring initiative will begin end of June
- Registration of youth will begin in the next couple of weeks
- There was concern that some Ghanaian parents do not take adequate interest in supporting this type of programs and it was recommended to encourage them to take active role in supporting this type of programs
- There were passionate contributions as to why we need to participate in this kind of programs
- Ghana Census
- It was announced that a technical committee of 5 is embarking on Ghana Census starting with Toronto. The High Commissioner in conjunction with the community leaders are working on this initiative
- The community is required to ensure that this works for political discourse and planning purposes
- Cultural and Resource Center
- There are ongoing initiatives to implement a Cultural and Resource center
- There have been consultations with Municipal and Provincial governments and more to come on that
- Proactive Health Checks: Due to time Constraints we did not get to the last item on the agenda….sensitizing our community about healthy life styles. This will be complete 3 hour event with health professionals in attendance in the near future
- GCAO financial statements for 2014 and Supplemental 2015 Accounts were distributed to attendees. Those who need copies should let me know and we will send you a copy
- We would like to thank those of you who attended the fund raising kick off at Apostles Continuation Church and thanks for your contribution thus far
- It was engaging and insightful discussion and we thank our clergy who attended despite their busy schedules…Apostle Anokye, Pastor Mantey, Reverend Amoah, Pastor Brobbey, Reverend Asman , Reverend Asare Kusi and the leaders and youth of our community. THANK You!!
