WHAT IS THE GCHC? The Ghanaian-Canadian Heritage Centre (GCHC) is a Toronto-based, non-profit community centre affiliated with the Ghanaian- Canadian Association of Ontario (GCAO), having a distinct identity, with programs catering to the unique needs and interests of the Ghanaian-Canadian community and other Canadians of any nationality, in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Mission: To have a Ghanaian-Canadian resource hub to cater to the unique needs of Ghanaian- Canadians. The GCHC will serve as a rallying point to bring the different Ghanaian- Canadian groups together to share their rich experiences with other Canadians for the healthy growth of our communities in the GTA.   Vision: To provide unique socio-cultural support, increase awareness, growth and education for Ghanaian-Canadians.   ABOUT THE CENTRE The Ghanaian-Canadian Resource and Heritage Centre is to provide a comfortable space for all in the community to innovate, network, mentor, and seek solutions for common problems afflicting our community. The Centre design will be environmentally friendly and consist of a variety of flexible areas:
  • Administration, consulting rooms and conference spaces.
  • Career information hub
  • A playground for children and childcare centre.
  • An open concept cafeteria.
  • A Grand Ceremonial Hall.
  • Fitness, Wellness, and recreational area
  • Library and ICT centre
  • Cultural and Historical Museum.
  • Community Residential apartments.

  Scope of activities for the GCHC
  • Develop and promote extensive community-based programs and cultural activities
  • Share our vibrant cultural experiences with other Canadians to foster and promote exchanges for collective development of our communities
  • Extend services and programs to all members of the community
  • Build programs that will enable and empower the next generation of Ghanaian- Canadians to be knowledgeable about their rich heritage
  • Serve as a cultural base to educate and inform young Ghanaian Canadians and other Canadians about Ghanaian culture and traditions
  Examples of UNIQUE programs of the GCHC The GCHC will provide a meeting place to develop advocacy and lobby all levels of governments to run unique community programs such as:
  • Gang and violence prevention
  • After school programs and networking activities
  • Academic upgrade for new and old immigrants
  • Skill developments and job search counseling
  • Immigration, employment, and resettlement issues
  • Community education activities such as workshops on government policies, evictions, and other general community issues
  • Tailored health, nutrition, wellness, and mental health awareness programs
  • Mentorship and volunteering initiatives partnering professionals and elders in the community with the young generation
  • Cultivating community engagement and social education by providing a common place for updates on government initiatives
  • Facilitate government and community interactions on social policies/ programs such as childcare, care for the elderly, housing, and so on.
