Easter 2021 Message From GCAO President

April 1st, 2021

Esteemed Community Leaders/Members

First off, let me wish you and yours a Happy Easter (if you celebrate Easter) and that this  weekend brings you hope and assurance that, even with the doom and gloom of that fateful Friday of Crucifixion, Sunday came with the resurrection and there was joy and celebration.  In our lives there are days it might look like things are not going that well but that Sunday will come, we just have to do our part and let us keep trusting in God. All will work out!

 Few housekeeping items

  • The Pandemic (Vaccines):  It has been over a year since the pandemic hit and the world continues to grapple with the ripple effect of this menacing COVID-19. There are vaccines being administered now and it is my hope that our community will take advantage of it and when it is your turn please decide to take it for the sake of you, family, community, church, mosque, organization, association, co-workers etc. Some of you have taken it and you are feeling great and no problems at all. Please share your experience with us in writing to share.
  • Pandemic (still raging on):  This morning I just read a sobering letter sent by a group of front line ICU doctors about what they are seeing in emergency units of the hospital. In fact, what caught my attention was the word ‘racialized’ communities are heavily impacted. I thought since our community is part of that racialized community I wanted to reach out to your leaders to continue to harp on the need practice the social distancing, double masking, avoid crowds, stay home etc. I am hoping soon we will all get vaccinated but for now let us stay tight and do the right thing please, please. We love you and want us to be together soon alive. *I have attached the link of the letter sent by the ICU doctors to read and share please” https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/20536814-file-0429
  • Programs to alleviate impact of COVID: As you are aware we got some grants to provide food to our vulnerable community members and continue to engage the community in other areas such health, education, welfare, youth programs, legal, women, seniors etc.  As always we are looking for volunteers in different fields such, teaching and mentoring, health, IT, communication, writing etc. Actually, you can volunteer for anything. Readiness to help is what is required.
  • Hope and Optimism: There is hope and optimism in the air with vaccination ramping up but we have to cross a bridge to that bright and beautiful feeling that we made it. We are all in it together and we will overcome so stay positive and hopeful and let us do our part.
