Meaningful relationships have the power to inspire and encourage healthy habits. The Ghanaian-Canadian
Golden Age Group of Ontario have recognized the importance of fostering and strengthening their
relationships as a means to combat social isolation among seniors. On August 29, 2023, they hosted a
summer BBQ event designed to bring seniors together. It is essential to note that social isolation among
seniors poses a significant public health concern, as loneliness can lead to various mental health issues and
increase the risk of chronic health conditions.

The Golden Age group gathered to socialize, engage in games, reconnect with old friends, dance, exercise,
and relax at the Ghanaian Canadian Association of Ontario Hub located at 65 Mayall Ave, Toronto. The
seniors eagerly anticipate this annual gathering because it is meticulously planned and executed by the
senior leadership team. They consider such gatherings vital to their well-being, with some participants
expressing that these events contribute to a happier and healthier life. Active engagement at these
gatherings stimulates their minds and strengthens social connections, as they relish the opportunity to see
and connect with their friends.
