As part of the 59th Ghana Independence Week, the 2nd program for the week was a brief ceremony held at the forecourt of the Toronto City Hall In the morning hours of March 7, 2016 to hoist the national flag of Ghana to commemorate the 59th Birthday of  our dear nation.
Speaking briefly at the flag raising ceremony, Hon John Bosco who is the Consul General of Ghana in Toronto praised the forefathers of our nation Ghana for their efforts in achieving freedom for us. He pointed that the nation Ghana continues to strife for development and thank Canada for being a reliable partner in our struggle for development.  He also thank the City of Toronto and its leaders for honouring Ghana on its Independence Day!
Hon Vincent Crisanti, the Deputy Mayor of Toronto, in his response traced the years of cooperation between Ghana and Canada and described Ghanaians living in Toronto as hardworking and useful contributors to the national development of Canada.
The ceremony was well attended by the chiefs and queens of the Toronto Ghanaian Community, the executives of GCAO, some Ghanaian Canadians and the media.
Nana Yeboaa, a Ghanaian writer based in Toronto read a portion of her book- Lamentations by the Bans of the Volta which traces the struggle of immigrants to Canada to crown the ceremony

The Consul General on behalf of the Ghanaian community presented a Kente Stole to the Deputy Mayor as the community’s appreciation.
