TEXTILE ARTS AND DESIGN PROGRAM FOR YOUTHS

In striving to support the creative efforts of young people, GCAO hosts an artistic training and skills development program in Modern Batik for youth in the Toronto Ghanaian community during the summer months.

The summer workshop dubbed ‘Modern Batik Couture’ and funded by the Toronto Arts Council, is facilitated by the renowned Batik artist, David Kibuuka from Uganda, and Lorena who is a versatile fashion designer based in Toronto. The coordinator and originator of the program, Mr. Joe Kingsley Eyiah, a seasoned educationist, manages the program from the Apostles’ Continuation Church event space.

This program has garnered much interest from Ghanaian parents which has encouraged the organizers to expand the Batik Couture workshop to more youth in the community.
